How do I terminate my mio TV service? | ||
---|---|---|
For termination of mio TV service, please call our mio Hotline 1688.
|
However, don't waste your time calling their Hotline.
There is no phone option for termination in the first place. You will instead be put through their phone options maze where you'll probably get hold of the customer service in the end. If not, try your luck by calling again. And after wasting your time asking for details, the CSO will transfer you to instead to the termination department.
You will be serviced by another CSO who will try to persuade you to not terminate their service. They practically hard sell not just to get you to keep your Mio TV service, but everything under the red umbrella.
The best part is when in the end they will tell you that the actual termination will only take place when you return their set top box to one of the four SingPost branch. In other words, you do not need to waste your time calling their Hotline.
I do not know who came out with this brilliant idea to piss customers off because it works very well indeed.
Anyway the four SingPost branch, correct at the time I posted this, are
1. Paya Lebar
2. Killiney Road
3. Woodlands
4. Jurong Point
Update: As mentioned in one of the comments, it is advisable to make a call to the branch first to check if they are able to process your termination request. Also, the items to return are the mio box, the power supply and the remote controller. Do make sure that your contract is over, else there will be termination fee. To find out if you are still under contract, call 1688.
Update: As mentioned by garfeel, you can also have it sent to SingTel Shop at Bugis and AMK
Update: SingTel customer service did say that certain Hello Shop are able to provide termination service. I guess it is best to call the outlet you plan to go first.

Yes, you are right...I spent 30 minutes on the phone...got passed around to 2 persons...and final answer was that the termination can only be effective after 3 items were returned!!!
What are the 3 itema?
The box, power cable & remote
do i need to pay penalty charges?
No you do not, as long as your contract is over.
I have one year contract left and they told me the termination charge is around $400. Unbelievable!
They do not provide the services that they had agreed on the contract and yet I cannot terminate it without paying termination charges! If their services are good, then it makes sense for the charges. However, since they can't even provide me with a reliable connection, isn't them the ones who forfeited on their contract? Shouldn't they be the one compensating me? I don't understand the logic!
IDA should do something about this.
Dear Anonymous,
I understand your predicament. However, that is how it is.
Anyway, for your case, if you are unsatisfied due to video freezing issue, call them and demand they fixed it. Call them everyday until they are tired of you.
I did that before and after so many visits, the last technician found rust in the cable outside my home and fixed it.
Beside the 3 items n yr nric, that will be all I presume?
iceman72, yup that is pretty much it.
I strongly suggest you call the singpost branch that you'll be visiting.
I made my way to JP branch, only to be told that their mio tv termination system is down! The staff there told me to try at the paya lebar branch. What a wasted trip!
I just went to jrg pt and found out the termination service is unavailable. What a waste of trip. Was so pissed off!!! why cant they update abt it on their website? Or why cant they do the termination at every outlet. Oh not forgetting my hotline service took almost an hr cause i need to terminate my mio tv and my broadband...
Ding dong here, ding dong there. They think we are so free is it?
I went singpost Today at jurong point. Managed to return the box set....whew!!!
Thanks vm. Really appreciate the info on the things to bring down.
I too went through the phone call earlier, and then ask to call again when expiring. They then tried to offer me one month free, but as I do not need it, they said it would be terminated only when I return.
They took my email and as an extra measure took my mobile number and they said they will email me pictures of what the equipment look like and where the 4 offices are - the email and the sms never came. That was three days ago.
Fortunately, a google search brought me to your helpful tips. Thanks.
Very bad experience at the Comcentre to return my Mio Box. I waited 20 mins and I couldnt not wait anymore as I have to rush to work, so i ask for other alternatives and the reply from the CSO, no you gotta wait and pointing his finger at the queue behind me and say "these people also have to work"..so shock and dumb founded by the reply that i have forgot to take down his name.
Instead of goin thru all the 4 centres..You can actually return it at Bugis Singtel Shop which however the hotline CSO didnt mention
Hi garfeel,
Thanks for the valuable information. I will add it in. It is possible that SingTel Shop actually accepts termination as well. Will get SingTel to provide this information.
they have kindly allowed me to return the kit to the Hello Shop @ AMK Hub ...
hi dye,
I have called up SingTel and they did say that some Hello Shops are able to provide the termination service. Thanks for the confirmation.
damn it, i went down to singpost paya lebar on 23 March and they decided to close it due to their staff day
WHO SAY A SINGAPORE POST OFFICE can closed on an operating day without posting the change in operning hours online or in public newspaper? It is a monopoly operator with duty of care to their customer who pay for their service.
damn it, thats how singapore ONLY operator behave in Singapore.
SingPost no more taking the box, remote etc return to Hello! Shop
I brought the Mio TV STB to exchange at Paya Lebar Post office because the power adapter is faulty.Good Experience.
I cant find the power adapter. Know anyplace i can buy one?
Hi Meeranudeen Mohamed,
I think you should be able to find a third party one from SLS or similar stores. Important thing is to note the connector type and the voltage/ampere rating of the box which should be stated on the box.
Somehow I feel that dealing with Singtel is like dealing with Sicilian mafia: easy in, impossible to get out.
I'm going to cancel my MIO TV and telephone line by going to Bugis Singtel Shop first, if they reject then I'll go to Singpost Paya Lebar Post Office.
And no, I will not show my real name here because like a mafia, who knows they also have spies. After knowing my real name they will give instruction to Singtel Bugis Shop and Singpost Paya Lebar when this guy comes, just say the termination system is down.
Anonymous, I think that is a bit extreme. This post is too little a threat for them to take such drastic measure. Anyway, good luck on the termination.
Thanks for all the help. Indeed it is a nightmare to try to cancel & return this contract. They make it very easy to buy but very difficult to cancel! The SingTel website has every information you desire EXCEPT how to cancel!!! Typical Highway robbery!
Dear al. I just terminated my mio set yesterday at bugis hello shop. As long as your contract is over, they will take in your request. Their service was fast n i only spend 10min for the whole termination.
Singtel managed to 'sway' my elders to sign up mio tv which they don't even need & don't watch...now we are stuck with this plan as cannot cancel first 6 months which is so-called foc but still pay for rental of tv box.
